Description

The West Karbi Anglong district with its headquarters in Hamren is characterized by green hills and is situated on a plateau.. The district is a part of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council and it is administered according to the Sixth Scheduled of the Indian Constitution.

The West Karbi Anglong district is a new district formed out of the existing Karbi Anglong District of Assam (formerly known as the Mikir Hills district) in 2016 to facilitate better administration and governance in the western hilly areas.

West Karbi Anglong offers significant opportunities in agriculture, specifically in cultivating Ginger (Ginger identified as an ODOP product),, Maize and Spices, alongside booming, sustainable livestock rearing (pig farming) for rural livelihoods. The district has high potential for eco-tourism development around Singhasan Hills and Koka, while government schemes under the Sixth Schedule support women's empowerment through SHGs.
